Round the Island Race 2012 – for everyone!

May 30, 2012

Thirty days to go before the start of one of the most spectactular races. On June 30th, more than 1000 yachts will compete in a circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight. Last year more than 1800 yachts competed in stormy conditions. This year already 1366 yachts have registered, numbers will grow.

For those not actually competing on the water, it is possible to follow Winsome and her crew, mile for mile. Everyone with a smartphone can track our progress and that of our rivals around the Island with the free GPS tracking app. Visit the tracking preview page at https://rtir.me/trackingpreview for more information.

Furthermore there will also be a Live Race Viewer as well as the online Race Blog. Each boat in the fleet, which has GPS tracking enabled, will be visible in the Viewer, and visitors to the official Race website will be able to track favourite boats as they progress around the 50 nautical mile course.

Tracking will commence from the first start time of 0700 right through to the finish. The live tracking facility will be found at https://rtir.me/livetracking

More news will follow shortly,

Joost
