Rolex Fastnet Race 2013, day 1
August 11, 2013
Harry will probably give a number of updates on the site from aboard. Information can also be found on the www.fastnet.rorc.org site.
Sunday 18.45h
Winsome started her race in IRC 4 and sailed out of the Solent, keeping close to the mainland side. She was one of the first yachts out of the Solent in her class, just behind Noel Racine’s JPK ‘Foggy Dew’, in other words, good company and well done Winsome crew. Conditions are excellent for Winsome at the moment 14 knots of wind and probably easy reaching with kite nr 1. Looking at the tracker they are climbing up to the rhum line, probably to avoid a strong tide against them around Portland Bill. At the moment they are 13th in IRC 4 and 134th in IRC overall. Ignore the standings a little as all yachts are still to close and on another tack they will be leading IRC 4 and 4th in IRC overall (1 hour ago). It is an interesting move from Winsome as many IRC 4 yachts are still keeping closer to the land than her course. Let’s see how the cards will be dealt this night and coming morning.
