RORC EASTER REGATTA, Cowes, 15-17 April 2022

It was great to be racing again on Winsome, after over 2 years of COVID-19 disruptions and lock downs. This was the first inshore regatta that we have sailed on Winsome, since 2019 and we all really enjoyed this first regatta of the 2022 season.
The Winsome crew for this regatta, consisted of Harry (navigation), Leen (mainsheet), Dirk-Jan (trimming and pit), Robin (trimming), Frans (mast), Joost (bow) and Laura (helming). Harry, Leen, Dirk-Jan, Frans and Joost sailed the boat from Cherbourg to Cowes and arrived on Thursday morning, the day before the regatta. They had a safe trip across the Channel but unfortunately did not have much wind, so they engined for c. 18 hours. They prepared the boat and Winsome was ready for racing on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There were a few minor challenges, which we will need to fix over the next few weeks, such as the navigation instruments but overall, Winsome was prepared very well and in great condition.
We had 3 great days on racing, sunshine and wind ranging from 8 to 15 knots. We had 3 windward-leeward races on Friday, 3 races (2 wind-ward leeward and 1 round the cans) on Saturday and finished the regatta with 2 races (1 wind-ward leeward and 1 round the cans) on Easter Sunday.
We started the regatta with a solid set of results with a 5, 5 and 6 on Friday. The next day saw us improve to finish with a 4, 5 and 1. And on the final Sunday, we finished a 3 and 1! We won both of the round the cans races and we were delighted to finish the regatta 2nd overall in class 3, out of 15 boats.
Harry and the Winsome team were also awarded the Prix D’Elegance for the regatta and of course, we received the usual, Easter eggs for the entire crew!
We look forward to the upcoming offshore races and of course Round the Island Race, the RYS Regatta and Cowes Week over the summer. This was a very nice way to spend the long Easter weekend, with good wind, sunshine and great racing with a great team onboard Winsome! We look forward to more great racing, fun and lots of enjoyable sailing onboard Winsome in 2022 and beyond. Thanks very much to Harry and the entire team.
