Cowes Week 2022, Round up

August 7, 2022

What a great week! This is the summary of Cowes Week 2022. WINSOME was built in 1972 and therefore she is 50 years young this year. WINSOME is looked after very well and this results in that we can still sail her during competitive racing.

Two competitors we want to congratulate on behalf of the whole WINSOME crew:

  • Peter Morton and his crew who won the Black Group Cowes Week 2022 overall! Peter sailed on WINSOME for many years, so this means a very minor part of his success is due to WINSOME.
  • Secondly, we want to congratulate WHOOPER, the winner of IRC 5. They sailed a very consistent regatta. A good competitor in our Class. We hope for a sportive revanche in Cowes Week in 2023.

Friday was day 7 and the last day of the regatta. We finished the last day with a first place. The race track was shortened, luckily we found this out in time, but to be honest, just (just) in time. We listened to CH 77 and not to the start frequency as was erroneously confirmed to us by the Regatta office

 Summary:

– 2nd place in IRC 5 (3 first places versus WHOOPER 4 first places)

– 26th in Black Group overall

– 7x line honours/guns (1st on the water in our Class every race)

WINSOME will sail the Cherbourg Race starting on Friday the 2nd of September 2022. That will be the last race of this season.
