Happy encounter with Winsome at Lymington

July 28, 2011

Today, Thursday 28th of July, we -Leen, Wout and myself- went by repaired Luna to Berthon Lymington to pick up Winsome after her repairs caused by our collision with the gaffer during the Round the Island Race.

All was looking well upon our arrival. Nevertheless many small items had to be resolved including the Perkins engine which gave no coolingwater upon starting. It appeared that the connection between the coolwater pump and the engine axle was broken. We had the luck that one of the engineers at Berthon offered to take out the water pump from his father’s boat also being repaired at Berthon’s.

Two new fire extinguishers purchased. We sprayed the new tuff luff with McLube Tevlon spray for which we used the storm jib.

All lights worked and the switches for the Tricolor light and for the Windex light were well connected this time. A Webasto hose in the forepeak of the boat was damaged and replaced. New press buttons near the B&G FDD’s were put in place and worked well. We believe that the hardware in the B&G meters near the Helmsman is replaced, but in the day light we could not check this.

In spite of the extensive damage/repairs done, the boat looked inside very well and very clean.

All instruments worked but we had no chance to check the Iridium to get a weather forecast for this weekend.

I took LUNA to carry me back to Cowes and it was a beautifull sight to see Winsome in the waters of the Solent again, like nothing did happen in the Round the Island Race.

Tomorrow Friday 29th of July will be our final day for preparation of Winsome for the RORC Channel Race and we expect the rest of the crew to arrive then as well. Sir Peter is already on the Island and we will see him first thing tomorrow morning.

Will be continued.
