23 October. 1st leg EHBD-LSZL (Locarno) 419 Nm

October 24, 2017

23 October 2017

First flight from Budel to Locarno. We had more than 100 Nm tail wind, so the trip lasted only 01:20 hours since we made SOG [Speed Over Ground] of more than 350 knots over half of the distance.

It became a diffcult landing in Locarno, but with Urs on board there is not much which can go wrong and it did not.

The tracker did not work optimal. That is the reason why you see on our tracker a nearly straight line, but this was not the reality. There is still hope for improvement thanks to Prof. Pieter Köhne. Let us see the next days.

We made the trip together with our friend Joop van Litsenburg, whom you will find on the right side.

The rest of Monday and Tuesday we used to complete packing the a/c. A dinner with Anita van Aken, who won her bridge game yrsterday at 97 years of age (!) completed our day.

There are already some clouds over our trip since we will not get any parking space in Alexandria as a result of a/c’s arriving for the Haj,  so we may have to divert to El Alamein.

El Alamein International Airport. El Alamein International Airport (IATA: DBB, ICAO: HEAL) (Arabic: مطار العلمين الدولي‎ Maṭār El ʿAlamein El Dawli) is an international airport located in El Dabaa, Matrouh Governorate, Egypt.

The second Battle of El Alamein was a decisive victory in the second World War for the British army, but we are going to check this ourselves.

Tomorrow to Heraklion, Crete.
