A summary of the first two days in Cowes Week 2024
July 29, 2024
After Winsome’s hull was treated three days by Gavin Zappenden in Cowes Boat Yard (ex Medina Yard) and the missing crew members arrived on Thursday all preparations were made and finished with three hours sailing on the Solent.
We were fully prepared but at the start on Saturday we were pushed over the RYS startline by the tide and we were OCS [other course side]. So we returned and restarted again. We managed to get close to our IRC-5 competitors and believed one moment we could still win this race, but not all competitors were equipped with AIS. Winsome became 4th [19 participants] on rating after ARCUS, BETTY and ZARAFA. Not bad after our OCS.
On Sunday we had an excellent start and we kept all other boats behind us, until the moment we were ordered by a pilot boat guiding a container vessel to taka a different course at the last mark before the mark. There we lost the race and we became only 8th, after BETTY, ARCUS, CETAWAYO, xxx and ZARAFA.
We are keeping our spirits high knowing that we can win, in spite of the results in races 1 and 2.
Tomorrow (monday) we will have a new chance.
Wish us some luck!
